This is mostly a note to Maine Rentheads, especially from the Bangor area: Friday, July 7th, is the Charlie Howard Memorial Walk. The event will begin with at 6:30 PM with a service at the Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor, then at 7:15 a processional will be lead down Hammond Street to the State Street Bridge, where at 7:30 a brief memorial service will commence. All participants are asked to bring a flower.

For those of you who don't know, Charlie Howard was a young gay man from Bangor who, in 1984, was attacked and thrown off the State Street Bridge by three drunk young men who were purposely targeting homosexuals, despite his cries that he couldn't swim. He had an asthma attack and drowned. The three youths responsible were tried as minors for manslaughter and served less than a year in juvenile detention each. This was one of the first major hate crimes targeting homosexuals to occur in the United States to get major media attention, predating the Matthew Shepard case.

Members of the GLBT community and their allies are urged to participate in the memorial service. This is the third year the event has been held in Bangor.

So do you guys want to keep doing the RENT meetups? (Don't worry Sarah, we can still get together.) Because it seems like the only people who show up are me, Nancy, Sarah, Michelle and Rich. If the locations don't seem interesting to you, suggest another place. (If you do comment, please add a website or phone number so I can check the place out.) Please let me know, because I don't want to be spamming your friends page every month, and have no one responding to me.

Tonight was fun, even if it was only Michelle, Rich and I. If you are anywhere near Malden, I suggest you check it out.

Now off to bed.

Pearl Street Station. Malden. 8PM. Karaoke. If you don't comment on this post I will not know to wait outside for you. It gets crowded fast, so I don't think you'll find us once we're inside. I'll be posting a date for the July meeting this weekend.

The other night, there was a Lifetime movie on (lifetime, so girly and cliche, i know) called A Girl Like Me. It was about a girl who was born a boy (transgender). I was out that night so my mum taped it for me. I watched it tonight and it is one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. It's amazing. The main character, Eddie (aka Gwen) is played by JD Pardo and he's just cute in general but he makes a beautiful girl. Reminds me very much of Angel. It's a spanish family and it's about how Eddie is accepted or not accepted into the family and into the world. It's amazing and if you've never seen it, you should. I don't know where you can see it. Oh. It's gonna be on Lifetime this Sunday at 9.

The little tagline is...

"When your son believes he is meant to be a girl, you challenge him, you fight him, you accept him, you love her."

It's an amazing story. Nothing too gorry, though I did watch a couple parts through my fingers. Has anyone else seen it? I'd love to gush about it to someone!!! And JD Pardo would make a gorgeous Angel!

So Pearl Street Station told me the wrong time for the karaoke start, so instead of 9 we'll be meeting at 8 PM. No one responded to my last post, so let me say this - if no one tells me where they need directions from I'm going to assume you know how to get there. Please respond if you are coming and how you are planning on getting there so I can plan accordingly. Remember Pearl Street Station is in Malden. The Orange Line is right down the street and there is parking available. I hope people are coming, because this is sure to be a fun time. XD

Hey Guys!!

Name: Emily
What part of New England are you from: CT
Why you like RENT: because it has a universal message that everyone can connect to...also I LOOOOVE the music : D
Favorite RENT character: Uhm can I say the pit orchestra that's really a rock band? Because for me that's the coolest thing in the world...but a real character would have to be Roger
Favorite RENT cast member: Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp
Favorite RENT song/lyric: Lyric: "Let's go eat, I'll just get fat. It's the one vice left when you're dead meat." so deep...lol
Song: wow I really can't choose...What You Own, Glory, Santa Fe, La Vie Boheme, Rent...the list goes on
Ever seen RENT live? How many times? yes I saw the national tour once, and I'm in the process of getting Broadway tickets!!
Ever see the movie? How many times? Umm I've lost track...I'd say somewhere around 10. I love all of the bonus features...especially the commentary! hence my icon...lol (if you have no idea what I'm talking about just ask)
Any other info? umm I met Adam Pascal at one of his concerts which was awesome! I got his autograph and told him how I thought he was amazing, and probably mumbled a lot of other stuff that I don't remember because I was in famous person blabber-mode : P which leads me to my next thing...

Ok, so as you can probably tell I am a huge Adam fan. I feel weird asking a favor of you guys in my first post, but I need help. I found out that he's going on tour again, and since his last show was so good I was ecstatic. He's doing two different shows...there's an acoustic show with his piano player Larry Edoff featuring songs from his solo CDs, and then he's doing a "Vegas" show with a full band featuring all Broadway songs!! (mostly Rent, Aida, and Cabaret because he was in them, but he'll probably do a few more) Anyway, it sounds awesome! Adam's agency (Off Broadway Booking) posted on the Adam LJ community saying that we could contact our local theatres and get them to book Adam...so of course I immeadiately e-mailed about 4 theatres. That was about a month ago, and only one has gotten back to me (with a negative response...but hey at least they got back to me) Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that a theatre isn't going to book an act if only one person requests it...I was wondering if anyone in the CT area was willing to help me out and e-mail some of the theatres as well that way they think that there's a high interest. I would be eternally grateful!! Here are the addresses:

Toad's Place (New Haven): toadsbooking@aol.com
Webster Theatre (Hartford): info@webstertheatre.com

I also e-mail the Hard Rock Cafe at Foxwoods but they said no, and I just e-mailed the Shubert tonight so I'll give you that contact info in a few days if I don't hear back from them. I figured that would be a good place for the Vegas show!! : D

In the email maybe just explain how Adam got his start in Rent and how he has two solo rock CDs and maybe list his other credits if you know them...I also mentioned the success of his last tour so they know that people will want to come.

Again, thank you so much for your help! You can visit www.offbroadwaybooking.com if you want to find out more about his tour. There's a really good promotional video of him singing Glory while playing acoustic.  And if you don't live in CT but still want to book a show, e-mail Tracie@offbroadwaybooking.com for ideas and more information.

I totally forgot to add this with my previous entry, so I'll make this one short:

Also on our NYC trip, we took a trip to the Life Cafe over in the East Village <333 Love.

Life Cafe & the East VillageCollapse )

Oh yeah! And for all the Grey's Anatomy fans out there, T.R. Knight, who plays Dr. George O'Malley, was eating there. We didn't realize it until we got home. I thought it looked a lot like him, but his hair was blue. I came home and found out he dyed his hair blue :P How exciting xDD I don't watch the show...

Hope you enjoy the pictures! ^^
